Providing Portland Violin Lessons to Students of All Ages With A Caring and Unique Approach

Our Violin lessons program is designed to give students the very best musical education possible, to help students achieve their full potential and to create an enriching and lasting musical experience. We do this by first and foremost by using a method we call the complete instruction method. This unique and powerful method teaches Violinists how to play music purely by ear and it also teaches how to play music by reading sheet music.

We use the Suzuki method primarily to develop skill and confidence in playing by ear, and we also cover note reading, scales, theory and sight reading. When students learn with this dual approach it opens up the whole world of Music to them, because it gives them two ways to access and experience music. All of our teachers have many years of experience in teaching Violin, have studied Violin at the Collegiate level, and we teach lessons in a positive and encouraging way. We help students set goals, create weekly practice plans and we encourage our students to practice, excel and to enjoy playing beautifully. An ideal lesson is one that is balanced, so it is both fun and productive, and as teachers we craft lessons in this manner to develop skill in our students as well as a belief in themselves.

What Makes Learning Violin at the Eliason School of Music such an enriching experience?

The Complete Instruction method was developed 15 years ago and over the years we have seen many wonderful things happen with our students as a result of this method. We see students playing at the highest levels of the Portland Youth Philharmonic as well as the Metropolitan Youth Symphony. We see students playing Concerto’s with orchestras, becoming Concertmasters and excelling in their Classical studies.

We also see students starting their own music groups, excelling at Fiddling, composing their own Music and performing recitals at their schools as well as our Music school. Perhaps the greatest success, however, is not just that our students learn to play with excellence and beauty, but that they love music and enjoy playing.

When you learn to play Violin correctly so the Tone is beautiful and pleasing, and when you are encouraged by your teachers to play your best and believe in yourself, this creates the foundation for a love of Music that can last a lifetime.

What Is It Like To Learn Violin Lessons At The Eliason School Of Music In Portland?

With violin lessons at our school in Portland students get to enjoy the pleasant tone from the violin sooner and with less effort. Once students have learned how to create a beautiful sound from the violin they continue to play through book one of the Suzuki method and further strengthen these positive habits of play.

Allowing students to play lots of songs with a beautiful tone, helps them get to know the violin and as a result, they enjoy playing every day.

Once students have created strong positive habits of play in their violin lessons then the lesson focus will shift more to learning scales, sight reading and musical theory. Since these students know how to make the violin sound good, we focus next on understanding and playing more complicated works of music in our lessons at our school in Portland.

Students designate a portion of their practice to sight reading, theory, and scales. This approach to learning makes it easier for students to learn new music because they understand it better. Also, since they learned how to make the violin sound good from the beginning, they always know how to create a beautiful tone in any type of music.
